the diabetic testing glucose meters, if developed indigenously should not cost morethan rs.500-00 and the test sticks should not cost more than rs.1/-. it is the corporate greed that is boosting the price. azad should call for all india tenders to manufacture and supply glucose meters and test sticks in colloboration with AIIMS with an assured intake by government of atleat 1crore meters and ten crore sticks in the next 5years from atleast 500 small scale industires spreadover all over the country. it is possible that this will encourage and develop indigenous industries and intelligent enterprieners.only the basic standards and technology has to be developed by ecil and aiims and passed on to industries without any additional royalties. the cost of technology development can be borne by government since this is what is exploited by corporates who charge skyhigh royalties.it is possible, easy and practicable and what is needed is the real will of the government. i hope my suggestion will be passed on to azad.
