Down syndrome / Birth Defects - Genetic

Down syndrome is a genetic condition that arises due to an extra copy of all or part of chromosome 21. Though Down syndrome cannot be cured and comes with a host of medical issues, people with the syndrome learn several skills during their lifetime. With proper medication, diet, training and care, many of them are capable of becoming independent and leading a normal life. With early health intervention, some individuals with Down syndrome are now capable of going for jobs and fending for themselves.

Down Syndrome

This is strange. I am unable to break free from a finished assignment –an Interview that required me to interact with individuals affected by Down Syndrome. It was reported and done with. No big deal—or so I thought. Now it appears as if I’m seeing these individuals with Down Syndrome everywhere…Enroute to work, in busy roads, in quiet lanes, in public transport—suddenly they are everywhere! As if planted before my eyes. I now understand that many parents with Down syndrome children are not Net savvy and have a hundred different doubts and anxieties regarding the future of their children born with Down syndrome…..like this lady I met on the bus who is worried that her 3 year old boy with Down syndrome is not yet talking ….Will he ever talk? I’m clueless as to how to go about this….I think those of us who stay connected on the Net should try to pass on useful info and tips that will help others…..Care to share?
