I had this procedure done on 12/21/10 at my gyn office. I was going in because I have not had a cycle since September. Well I was not expecting to have this procedure done in the office that day, but there I was having it done! She informed me that there would be some cramping during and after the procedure. Mind you ladies I had not taken anything before my visit that day. Well for me it wasn't so bad. I did feel cramping during the procedure but nothing I could handle I had felt worse. Afterward I took a 800mg Motrin for some mild cramping after the procedure and I was fine. So I say it depends on your pain threshold, the pain I felt wasn't all that bad. Oh yeah she took 3 samples and the procedure was over in like maybe 3-4 min. Good Luck Ladies

Ok...for all of you who insist that it is not all that horrible...your experience is not someone else's. My Dr. had that attitude with me when I told her how much pain I was in. She said, "Oh, it's not that bad. I've had one done before." Well, let me tell you, I felt like my insides were being ripped apart. I've had pap smears done, and I've had a kolposcopy done before, which is slightly more uncomfortable than a pap. and let me tell you, they PALED in comparison to the biopsy. It IS painful for some...even for some with high tolerance for pain. You just can't tell someone it won't be bad, and dismiss what others have said. Of course, the result of the test was an infection, which was probably the cause of my pain. So, don't ever tell someone what they're experiencing isn't painful. You're not them.

I totally agree with "fedup", I just had one done yesterday, 1/05/11. . .OMG, I've had 4 Cesareans and a cervical biopsy, miscarriage, D and C, and I would say this was probably as painful as my miscarriage. . I felt violated in a way, but definitely my doctor underplayed how painful it could be. . waiting on results. . .hopefully not serious, but we'll see. I was supposed to go to work, but decided to stay home, cramped [and cried] just because I didn't expect that much pain I guess.. better now though. . UGH, was not what I expected.

I had a biopsy done almost 3 years ago now for heavy bleeding caused by fibroids, it was the worst pain i have ever felt, worse than my ectopic pregnancy, d and c and I.V.F treatment, i screamed with the pain, i had not taken any painkillers because i didn't think i would have too!!!! Never again ever, the doctor who performed it looked at me like i was a crazy woman, i just hope one day she has to have one and it hurts her like crazy, ha ha!!!. Since that horrible day i have had a mirena placed and that was a doddle.

I had one of these done last week and OMG did it hurt, the doctor said it was painless so when the pain came it was a total shock. now I am no softy but this was the worse pain I have ever felt. It was like someone was stabbing my insides and pulling them out. I have had appendicitis, 4 c-sections from my kids, 3 miscarriages, pap smears and cervix biopsy and this was far far worse compared to them. I think Doctors should be telling people it may hurt grrrr at least with a little warning I would of known what was coming. They had to stop after a very short time because I was crying and I am telling you it takes a lot to make me cry.
