Geriatry-Related Diseases

Geriatric diseases include diseases that appear only in old age, diseases that persist up to old age, and other diseases that occur in people of all ages. Because the body of an old person is very different from the body of a younger adult, diseases affect older people differently, and a geriatric physician is the best person to consult for them.

Very good!! I am glad this is being researched. My only gripe is this continued myth that those over 60 hardly ever get this!! My mother had it starting in her late 70's [and the first person diagnosed by Dr. Pick was in thier 70's]....and because of this prevailing thinking, it was very hard for us to get the doctors to test for it. I have never heard why it would be limted to the 50's and 60's, but it is repeated so often that drs rule it out. They lump them all after 70 with the Alz group and that is wrong to do because the behavior and later stages are MUCH different. Eventually the real picture will emerge....a significant number diagnosed with Alz, really had FTD instead. JR in Florida
