India is managing about 5.5 million units of blood annually where the need is around 10 million as on date. Of this only 10% are women donors. Countries like Thailandd, Zimbabwe has registered about 40% of women blood donors but India's performance is very poor in this area. India is reeling under blood deficit of 35-40 percent per year and the crisis is even more in government run blood banks where they run under replacement management system-which is risky.
