Albinism is a hereditary disorder characterized by defects in melanin production which results in little or no pigmentation in the skin, hair, and eyes. There is no cure for albinism, but it can be managed, especially with special care for the skin and eyes.

Albinos and their families need a lot of support, and you can join this online support group for albinos to meet professionals who can help or contact other people or families with the same challenges.

My daughter has albinism and I am trying to figure out what type she has. She has white hair, no pigment in the retina of both eyes. Her skin is very white and her eyes are blue, and on one eye she has a brown spot in the iris.

I think you can get a test for it actually. I don't think you can really tell by the way your she looks or anything.

It's definitely not OCA3 or Brown OCA. If your caucasian its probably OCA 1 [oculocutaneous albinism type 1] and if you black its probably OCA 2

My son has albinism, the same as your daughter.. He actually had laser eye surgery in high school and is able to drive...I can't tell you how blessed i'am with him..he is in graduate school...never give up...if you have any questions email me at [email protected] name is Grace

my son is 6yrs of age n has albinism too,I just asked his ophtalmologist about the eye surgery n he told me nothing can be done to improve his eyesight, Im glad to hear that your daughter can drive too cause i was very sad when i was told he would be unable to drive in future, my question is : when can I have the eye surgery done and where?

Hello guys, It seems the number of people with albinism are scattered all around the world, we become unique creatures. I was born in Jakarta , but now live in Bali, Indonesia ( South East Asia) I am myself a person with albinism. just wonder how many there are in Indonesia and around the world. I am interested in taking part in the survey and finding out the number of people with albinism and pray for them too. Because I realize people with albinism have an additional challenge in life compared to normal people.
