Amblyopia / Lazy Eye

Amblyopia, also called lazy eye, is reduced vision (usually in one eye) that is not due to any structural abnormality or eye disease and is not correctable by glasses or contact lens. About 2-5% of children have amblyopia, and treatment involves forcing the child to use the lazy eye.

I am a 51 year old woman that has been wearing a thick left lense since the 6th grade because of Amblyopia. All these years even as an older teenager I was told that in order to correct this I should have been patched and worked with as a young child. A couple of months ago I went to my Eye Doctor and we talked about my lazy eye again. He told me he could help me. Last Wednesday I had eye surgery inserting an artificial lens and I am back at work today. My sight went from 20/400 to 20/40 in my lazy eye. It is amazing what I wasn't seeing and it it wonderful the things I am seeing. Crisp.....everything is crisp. I don't know all the medical terms for what my doctor did, but if you would like more information I am getting all my paperwork together and I will be more informative a little later. My email is peopleperson1@cox.net.
