I believe this finding is true, and I hope German researchers find this out. My father was dyslexic but when he was young know one knew what it was, he was very smart! He just could not read. I also am dyslexic I am female also when I was growing up know one knew what it was I am now 54,I had a brother that would work with me he saved me from all the teasing and he helped build my self confidence, but to this day I still write better backwards and can not spell. My son has dyslexia I caught it when he was very young so he got the help he needed. We live in Birmingham, Alabama where there is a great dyslexia center. He received wonderful help, as you can see dyslexia has went male female male I am in fear if my son has a daughter she will be dyslexic.I have three daughters and my son was the one to get it. In case this is something you don't already know! Teaching a child or adult to type is life saving, we don't have to think about letters it's a memory skill. We have a big problem with hand writing and understanding letters and numbers so typing is a big help to us.
Thank you! Rena73

Jennifer, The dyslexia center is on Lake Shore, but first you will have to get your daughter tested by your school system if you are in Shelby county that should be easy. This will have to be don't before she can be excepted into their program. The school system can do this for you. KEEP PUSHING! and don't stop if you don't help your child no one will. They get lost in the system and keep getting passed from grade to grade and never getting help, because they are good kids! Don't let that happen. If she does have dyslexia she can have a wonderful life with the right tools it's never to late. Thanks Rena73 willing to help in any way

Jennifer,My son was tested last week and has dyslexia. He also has ADHD. I am haaving a hard time getting at least a 504. He tested at school qualified for a learning difference but was too close to the cut off so they retested and he missed by a few points. It's hard to find help for this. I live in Cahaba Heights. What is the name of the dyslexia center on Lake Shore or is that the name. Is it expensive? What do I need to do to get him in> I have the tests from the Scottish Rite [ I had to go to Montgomery] and a letter from his docter for the ADHD. Are you a member of the Central Alabama Dyslexia Support that meets at Hoover libary? I'm looking into that now. Thank you for any help.

Rena, I live in Cahaba Heights. Last week my son was tested and is dyslexic. He also has ADHD. I have his testing fron the Scottish Rite in Montgomery and a letter from his docter about his ADHD. I need help. I do not have a IEP or a 504. The school tested him last year and he qualfied but close to the cut off. They had to retest him and he missed by just a few. What is the name of the dyslexia center on Lakeshore or is that the name. I have been looking for help for about 6 months and this place has never come up. Also, do you know about any support groups here in Birmingham? He really needs help with spelling and writing. His reading and math are poor also. Thanks for your help.
